This is to inform the public that a public hearing will be held on the proposed Macon County Community Transportation Program Application to be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Transportation no later than October 2nd, 2026. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday September 8th, 2026 at 6:00 PM before the Macon County Board of Commissioners.
Those interested in attending the public hearing and needing either auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or a language translator should contact Darlene Asher, Transit Director on or before September 1st, 2026, at telephone number 828-349-2566 or via email at dasher@maconnc.org.
The Community Transportation Program provides assistance to coordinate existing transportation programs operating in Macon County as well as provides transportation options and services for the communities within this service area. These services are currently provided using Light Transit vehicles and lift-equipped vans. Services are rendered by Macon County Transit.
The total estimated amount requested for the period July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028.
NOTE: Local share amount is subject to State funding availability.

Anyone requiring non-emergency transportation is eligible to ride Macon County Transit. Macon County Transit does not provide emergency medical transportation. As a department of Macon County we follow the County Holiday Schedule.
